Stepping back down after 2 years on a longboard I needed the volume. This board catches waves easily and paddles well. I use it as a single as I like carry rides rather than snappy turns and cut backs. Can't wait for a nice clean day so I can put it through its oaces properly.

Basically a wave catching machine. I've used it in 2ft up to 4ft surf and it just catches everything.

Wowee! Hold on to your hats, if you're upgrading from a foamie like me! Janis (my 7'6 Love Child) took off so quickly I flew off the back the first time, I was so used to the slow meandering pace of my foamie I had not prepared myself for how keen Janis was to fly down that wave. But what a dream she is. She caught everything I paddled for, and still has heaps of volume so the stability is there for an easy pop up when you are still learning, but soooo much easier to move and go across the wave instead of lumbering straight down (in absolute fear you're are going to run over the children in front of you because you and your foamie can't change direction within a 10 minute time frame). You genuinely feel like you have progressed your surfing ten fold in the first session with this board. I was beaming after my first session with her. Happy freaking days.

Nice looking and good surfing board first board, was pulling waves on first sesh, highly recommended!

Absolutely love the board (Modern Love Child - PU, 8', psychedelic). New to surfing, it's already proved to be a very versatile & fun board... AND VERY WORTH IT. I also want to add that my experience with GSI has been great all-around- 5 star. The NZ territory MGR (Jordan) was extremely helpful to chat with online while I was deliberating between boards and provided useful information that helped my informed decision. I live in the Far North, and the board was at my doorstep in less than a week. I am 100% satisfied.

I brought 7' 6'' love child found it very to paddle and very versatile with the fin set up. I found gsi very good to deal with and the boards packed v/good. Ihave brought six boards over last 7 years jeff. b w. aust .

I started off riding a 7.6 board, when i started surfing at the ripe old age of 30. Though through the buoyancy and smart shape of the Love child I was able to quickly progress on to a 6.8 where I am able to master my turns and keep up speed in big or small surf. I love the Love child such a fun easy board to rip with.

Hi. I am an older surfer soon to hit 65 but still fairly fit. After years of riding a mal I wanted something a bit more exciting and easy to travel with and decided on a 7'6 Modern Lovechild. It gives me stability with manouverability and is a great board to ride in a variety of conditions. I took it on a tour of Sri Lanka and it really took some punishment on our travels without any issue. Would highly recommend this board.

An awesome Board and perfect for where I am at with my surfing at the moment. I upgraded to the 8'0 Modern Lovechild from an 8'4 BIC Magnum and boy am I glad I did. This board is not only striking in it's looks but also in it's ability to help a very average surfer like me catch more waves in each session. It's buoyancy and design has allowed me to improve my technique already and I've only had the board for a matter of weeks. This is the perfect board for me. I got a comment from a young grom last weekend who thought the board looked sick! Need I say more. Great Board, thanks again GSI.

I was a late learner with surfing, only picking up the sport as a hobby aged 27. After 6 months of slow learning I bought a 7'6 Love Child after a lot of research and recommendation from a friend. It was perfect! The size and volume make it super easy to catch all waves regardless of conditions, but also allows for some turns and manoeuvrability. Great option for beginners but not a one trick pony! Definitely feel as though I'll use this board even as I progress to something smaller.

I was keen on getting a mid length for my quiver and opted for the 7’ Love Child. I really like the board’s diversity. It’s the perfect balance between a shortboard and longboard. Heaps of volume and floatation helps paddling and getting on waves while it has the manoeuvrability of a shortboard when you’re up.
Tori B.
Love this board! I got it in the 6'8 as a mid range easy paddler between my short boards and logs. It delivers on all fronts - super easy to paddle due to the volume, fun manoeuvrability, and looks rad! Set it up as a quad if you want down the line speed, and chuck in the single fin for that looser feel. Definitely brightens up a chilly day down in the deep south of NZ!

I’ve owned the Love Child for a few years now and it’s a great 2-3ft wave board. Love the pinned tail! I never have a bad surf on it and my 9yr old and 5 other friends of varying abilities have loved it too. One of them even bought one of their own after trying mine.

I got my Love Child in June 2019, I was pretty new to surfing and had gone from a 9.1 to my Modern Love Chile 7ft, it gave me the freedom to progress but still have heaps of buoyancy to stand up and ease of paddling. Still riding my Love Child regularly and loving it!!
Fliss B.
Had this board for 8 months now. Love it. Super easy to ride. Used to use a minimal but thought I'd upgrade to a wider shorter board. Have seen huge improvements in my surfing!
Joel D.
Good all rounder, easy to catch waves.
Chris G.
Great board! Easy to ride. Whole family loves it!
Louis H.
My 6'4 Love Child does it all, it's like a one board quiver, good in small surf and when the swell gets bigger it handles that too all I do is change the fin configuration to suit the conditions. Best board I've had in years.
David R.
Brought myself a 7’6” Love child as a mid length for my quiver and not been disappointed. Goes well in a range of conditions, beach and points breaks plus our local river mouth!! Versatile as single or quad. Best of both worlds for me, paddles and gets into waves like a longboard but can be surfed as good as my shortboard in regards to turns and cutbacks are silky smooth. Stoked for sure
Rachel L.
I had a 6’8 and had heaps of fun in summer waves, lots of float so you’re on the wave early, but I did end up selling it on and getting a mini mal in the same brand instead, it was just a bit too floaty for me and I only keep a 3 board quiver.

Hi Surf Industries team - I really like your new website it is easy to navigate in terms of finding a surfboard vs SUP vs accessories etc.
One thing that has not changed, thankfully, and has helped me select several boards from you guys is the video clips for each board - short, cool photography and very 'Joe average' in terms of what most surfers standards are so it gives us 'Joes' confidence to buy versus other sites that have pro surfers doing the demos. I do not, unfortunately, surf like them but love all the boards I have bought in NZ from you (Jordan is great thanks) cheers Tim

I’m a mediocre surfer, have been surfing for 20 years, mostly mid lengths, fish, singlefins, and longboards. I have the 7’6” Lovechild, and it is my second fav board of all time. Super versatile, loves wally point, and pig dogs in pitchy headhigh beachie. Also, my kids fight over this board. With me.
Martyn P.
This board, for a change, does everything the manufacturer says. I’ve got the 7’6”. It paddles with great speed due to the volume and shape at the front half. Back half with the pintail makes turns sharp and controlled for a mid length fun board.
Really fun and responsive mini mal.
My mate always wants to borrow this one over any other board in the quiver!

If you dont want to be a log rider but need a summer catch anything board. This is it. Catches everything. I have the 6'4 and ride as a quad set up.
Paul B.
I have the 8ft version and ride it as a quad. A great alternative to a true long board, much better turns than I have ever had before and much faster across the face. Good for steep hollow waves and so good at late take offs. In my opinion it is more of long short board than a long board, little harder to paddle out or cruise around on than a long board, paddling for take off it feels a little heavier in the back, however got use to all that very quickly. It's a keeper, will now always want a board like this on the rack.
Simone N.
Great board for summer days. Good learning board, easy to catch waves.
Ross T.
I ride this board as a quad on smaller days. It’s easy to catch waves and has got good down the line speed. Good fun board for beach breaks up to 3ft.
Bruce P.
Awesome board. I bought a 6'8 Love Child for smaller days. I've been riding it for most sessions ever since. It's actually great on the bigger days too. Several fin set ups to experiment with as well.
Dave L.
great fun board for summer days, lots of float and easy to catch waves.Good all round fun board, suit anyone.
Rhetto B.
Love it!
Another great board to learn on but look cool while doing it. With a great combination of fin set ups, you can ride any kind of wave, from 1ft to 8ft. The experience surfer will love having fun on this board just as much as the beginners. Its an all rounder, if you ask me
Luc vb
I just got a 6’0″ and it surf amazing. Eazy to catch waves and very maneuverable at the same time. The one fin that comes with the board is super good too.
Anthony
I purchased the 8-foot love child. It is my favorite board now! It surfs everything. Steep , mushy waves Big Surf and little surf.. I love the five fin option. I hope this board remains in the Moderne lineup. I will definitely by this board again
Cole Bancroft
I was one of the winners of the GSI scholarship this year and i loved this board my first session, It works well in any conditions and can be used for so many things, if your looking for a great funboard shape, Buy the modern love child.
NICK
I got the 6’8 model as a transitional board coming down from an 8’0 performance longboard. Within a year it quickly became and still is my go to board for the conditions I normally surf in (mushy northern california beachbreak). Serves me well in any waves from 2 foot to 7 foot and paddles well; it can be difficult to duckdive repeatedly, I usually turtle roll depending on how tired I am. I really enjoy it as a quad, it can be very loose if you shift your feet back in front of the fins, and it’s stable enough that I can still sneak in cheater fives every now and then. As far as its maneuverability, I’ve been able to do small carving turns, snaps, re-entries, whitewater climbs, and pump down the line. I had more trouble doing these on the stock single fin,and have yet to try it as a 2 1. My one concern is the durability of the board, as I have had to repair it quite a few times, including a nasty incident where the fin box came out and was partially dislodged and another time when the metal bar in the leash plug came loose.

Love this model at 6.4. I had a surf accident and changed from my shortboard to a longboard and just picked this one up for overall fun and am loving it! So far single fin and love the cruise feel and sneaky cheater fives. Beautiful board to and I always have it as a go to board in my car now!
SCOTT
I have a 7/6 love child and it rips want to purchase a 6/4 as soon as the wife is not looking.I have always rode it as a quad and as long as your on the rail and cranking the tail it flies.I’ve made several sections on this board that I would have bet I’d never make.I have no hesitation to claiming it as one of the best boards I’ve ever owned. One downside I wish I’d got one sooner
Paul from P.A
This board is absolutely great . Had a 710 Australia want to get something a little bit shorter but stable . And this board is the shit . I love the longboard fin and the combinations that you can put Together with it . Whether the conditions are crappy or great this board will do it all for anyone who buys it . I highly recommend it .
SAM
I picked up both the 6 and 7 foot models. I’ve surfed both from knee high windswell to our recent tropical storm swell, head . I may never ride a different board model again, love them both and saving to get the other three sizes. Price is great and the quality is fantastic too.
Matthew Bronka
The guys in the board shop raved about the love child, after riding it for the first time I completely see why. I had the most fun surf session ever! The volume and width up top gives so much extra paddle power that you glide into waves, but the narrow tail instantly turns the board into a manouverable and fun board. There are a lot of boards out there that claim this combo but this one really maximises on both qualities. So stoked to get out there for second rip up!
Matthew
Great board for weaker summer slop in dirty jerzee. Quad set up is sweet.
Andrew
I LOVE this board! It does everything it says. The set up makes it easy to catch waves and the narrow tail make it fast and very easy to turn. I have been surfing about 6 months and this was the perfect transition for me. The rocker makes the board almost pearl proof. The only knock is that I have put a few dents in the top from pop ups.
Santosha Sivam
purchased a 6’8″ Lovechild as a Xmas gift to myself. love the board, easy to paddle & get into waves, very fast, easy to turn. what I like most about this board is the fin set up-single, thruster, quad-all are options. I’ve been riding it as a quad. like it so much that I also purchased a 7’6″ as my long board for small days. Thanks to Tony Butler for helping me with my puchases-seamless service!
Dez Robertson
Just had my second surf on this board and it’s official – I LOVE the Love Child! From the paddling to the overall
responsiveness; I couldn’t have hoped for better. I bought the 6 footer and rode it with a 2 1 fin setup in 1-3 foot
shories in Newcastle (Australia) and it performed brilliantly, plenty of speed on the open face and excellent rail to
rail transitions. The perfect allrounder. Can’t wait to try it with the quad setup and in bigger waves. Great work guys!
